| of my roots - eastern Europe. It's part nostalgia and part fun. I don't take them "seriously" but they do make me smile. For all the crap that people like to talk about them very few people have actually seen/ridden in one. They feel out of place in the US - they are small & simplistic in a nation of big cars & bigger roads. I'm not worried about people laughing - in all honestly I always got someone to either talk to me @ a gas station or give me a thumbs up @ a light or even better a window roll and a "god I have not seen one of those in 15 years..." comments. I bought my last Yugo in 2001 for around $1100 w. 75K miles on it. I sold it last week for $1600 just shy 100K miles on it. It always started, no matter how cold or shitty it was outside and it always served as the back up car when the Z was on stands or someone was in town and needed a spare ride. Here is the best Yugo joke I have: In 1986 they sold for $3990. 21 years, 100k miles later I got $1625 for it. That POS car has retained 40% of its original sale price AND Yugo resale prices are climbing.
